The team at Roses2Go Florists are most excited & proud to be welcomed as a member a very dynamic & exclusive new group on the Central Coast called the Wild Fig.  We feel so honoured to be included in this amazing group of people & businesses and look forward to being a active and contributory service partner to the Wild Fig Group.

Filming begins…..

Yes – it is all go here at Roses2Go; we are so incredibly proud of Wade Mann – our rose grower extraordinaire –  as the crew starts filming him this week for a brand new 12 part series on “The art of cultivating the finest quality hydroponic roses using the latest environmentally-friendly growing techniques”.  In this new program, Wade will be sharing with the world his knowledge, experience & expertise on his secrets to “rose growing success!”  I’m sure he will be the new “Steve Irwin” of the commercial rose growers of this world – well, he certainly has the passion.  The DVD series will be available for sale at some stage but we wait on the producers for dates – so watch this space!  Anyway, this a fun, exciting and brand new challenge for Wade & Roses2Go Florists – A Dozen Roses – The Rose Farm, Warnervale, Australia:-)

Conferences Galore……….My news – amongst juggling – our two florist shops (specialized rose outlets – as we like to call them), the marketing of Roses2Go Florists and the running of A Dozen Roses – Farm Tours (which I must add have been rather busy of late with lots of tourists from all over the world – yey!) – I was lucky enough to be asked to present a paper & speak at the Wild Flower Conference at the Yarra Valley, Victoria.

What was I – a hydroponic rose grower – doing speaking at a Wild Flower Conference, you may ask?  Well, our industries are extremely similiar but they are what you call “an infant industry” as opposed to the traditional flower growers as we have been around for many, many years – and the idea was to give them information and structures in place so they don’t make the same mistakes as our industry did and thus they have an easier and more successful progression in their industry.

It was a fantastic conference and I met and spoke with so many interesting & talented people it was truly an honour – and I felt I got so much out of spending the time & listening to other growers, researchers and specialists – it was a real treat!

At the end of this month – I have been asked to present to the Hydroponic Farmers Federation of Victoria at their bi-annual conference in Melbourne – this time on “Marketing” especially for primary producers and smaller growers.  This is another wonderful opportunity and I am so looking forward to it.

A photo of me (Nicky Mann) giving a talk at Gosford Rotary – I love to talk – ha! ha!

“Never Give Up”  – as my late Mum would say!

So in ending – we (The Mann Family) have nearly been in Australia 7 and half years, and yes we have certainly had our share of ups & downs but if you perservere and are determined & passionate about what you do – GROWTH in your business and personal life will come NATURALLY!

Roses2Go Florist – East Gosford Florist

Our new baby – Roses2Go Florist in East Gosford is just about to turn 5 months old on the 15th June, 2010.  WOW!  It has all happened in the blink of an eye – from the idea to reality – and now we have a fully functional florist based in the heart of East Gosford and central to most areas of the Central Coast.  This beautiful little shop based on the main road through East Gosford  – 65 Victoria Street, East Gosford to be quite precise – has become a popular destination for “rose-lovers” as it specializes in beautiful hydroponic roses direct from our rose farm in Warnervale – approximately only 30 minutes away!

The selection & varieties of roses available is mind-boggling and the choice of stunning arrangments on offer are to die for.

The local population have been remarkable and so supportive of our new venture and we are so very grateful.

The team at Roses2Go Florist East Gosford have done a brilliant job & we continue to get great feedback and comments on their customer service, floral design and knowledge.  Thank-you Julia & Jennifer – this beautiful specialized rose shop is a credit to you both!

Laugh out Loud – aka LOL

Terrible Photo - but it gets the point across

Flowers CAUSE Laughter, Smiles & Happiness!

They say “Laughter is the best medicine” – and I once read that “flowers are Mother Earth’s expression of laughter” – so, with that in mind – I thought I would share what a special place flowers & in particular roses hold in everyone’s hearts.  So to spread the laughter & love – give the gift of flowers – they really will make someone smile and uplift the spirit and will probably change their day:-)

Flowers are cheery and happy and are such perfect bright specimens of all that is good and natural in the world today.  So bring some nature back into your lives and homes and “SHARE THE LOVE” – give some flowers to neighbours or friends – let them know they are appreciated and special.

There doesn’t always have to be a reason to give flowers – so surprise someone – with a beautiful bunch of fresh flowers from your true local grower or your local florist!  BUT JUST DO IT – you will be overwhelmed by the response – maybe a naughty giggle from a loved one or a “happy dance”!  But the best thing – your kind gesture will keep on giving pleasure much longer than you think as the beautiful flowers sit in the vase/arrangement and open up slowly and begin to really unfold their true beauty – keeping you TOP of MIND for longer:-)

So remember send FLOWERS with LOTS OF LOVE……and maybe LAUGH OUT LOUD results!

Have A Rosey Day – from Everyone at Roses2Go Florists – East Gosford Florist & Woongarrah/Warnervale Florist & the A Dozen Roses – the hydroponic rose farm in Woongarrah and Warnervale, Central Coast, NSW, Australia.

April Fool’s Special

Well, in my family – it is always a great tradition to really get the most out of 1st April – “April Fool’s Day” and the practical jokes run RIOT!  My eldest sister Colleen – usually takes the cake when it comes to being the first & and the most original.  However, over the years I have been catching up rather well.

However, I thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to have some fun and do a really FOOLISH SPECIAL especially if you are a rose grower & the owner of the business.  So I have gone out on a limb and decided to do a truly awesome special tomorrow ONLY!

So here is the deal – 100 roses (any length or colour) for only $100 – but for tomorrow only – THURSDAY 1st APRIL, 2010!  This special is available at our rose farm in Warnervale – A Dozen Roses, Woongarrah  and our ROSES2GO FLORIST in East Gosford.

Yes!  Eat your heart out – a houseful of roses just in time for the Easter Weekend!  And if, 100 roses is a little daunting for you – why don’t you give some to friends & family or a lonely neighbour!  After all, it is all about giving at Easter Time and a reflection of LIFE and our spirituality!

So HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE – AND PLEASE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR AWESOME SPECIAL:-)

Do you LOVE your ROSE GROWER?

Happy Anniversary Wade!

Well, YES – I do –  tomorrow – 30th March –  is infact our WEDDING ANNIVERSARY – we would have been married 14 years – and all 14 of those years he has been the BEST ROSE GROWER I have known! LOL  – He is going to be so embarassed by this blog – because although he grows the most beautiful roses he is not a mooshey, soppy type of guy & not at all romantic either – he is your typical blokey-bloke who loves rugby, golf and ALL sport for that matter and a few beers with his mates.  However, he is a great Dad & Husband – and the best hydroponic rose grower – and this is because he consistently produces the finest roses especially with the equipment that we have got.  Although we have fairly good greenhouses – he doesn’t have all the “bells & whistles” & the latest & greatest equipment (especially no hydronic heating) available to grow the roses – but he does a pretty remarkable job none-the-less – producing the quality of roses he does WITHOUT using any harsh pesticides or chemicals.

Hydroponic rose production – is not a walk in the park or “rose garden” for that matter – Wade doesn’t wear dungerees or a straw hat and go out in the back yard or paddock and just prune a few rose blooms here & there and sell them.  He runs 6000m2 of twin-skinned poly-greenhouses, with 44, 000 rose bushes all highly bred for production, colour, longevity, length of stem, resistance to disease, etc, etc and particularly fussy in being kept at optimum conditions.  He programmes the computer controller which obviously controlls the greenhouses when to open & close the vents, the angle of the vent opening & which direction they must face to avoid headwinds or dangerous gusts, he decides when the ventilations fans should go on, the shade screens open and close & when the gas heating will operate, he determines the fertilizer feed and when & how the crop is fed,  Wade decides the irrigation & fertigation cycles & the frequency & length of each feed & cycle.  Always making sure pH & EC’ s are correct & the plants are getting the optimum growing conditions.  Wade directs all the bio-control programmes and does all the crop scouting & monitoring.  He harvests, suckers (disbuds), folds (bends), prunes and maintains all the rose bushes as well as being the managing director of the entire business & all the staff – thus, dealing with the finances, human resources, marketing, sales and business & strategy planning – even making the “hot marketing & sales manager” a cup of tea now & again – LOL.  So Wade Mann is an extremely vital part  in our business and not just the simple rose grower that most people believe.  Yes, Wade can tell you more about the weather in terms of light, temperature, humidity & wind speed than most weathermen will ever do – he could teach you more chemistry, botany, entemology and biology than most specialists could especially in a practical sense.  So never underestimate the “humble blokey-bloke who only grows hydroponic roses” – yes! and he is environmentally conscious & aware – he wants our children & their children to enjoy a healthy & sustainable environment.  Plus, he is community orientated having coached rugby union for 6 years now & given up of his time to give back to the community in which we live.  He has rallied for our Gosford Horticultural Research Centre based at Narara in NSW parliament & was an active member of the Roses & Gerbera Integrated Pest Management group – and he still only uses bio-control & bio-rationals to keep any pests and diseases under control.  He has stuck & been committed to the programme whilst other growers have dropped out because doing it “clean & green” wasn’t so easy!

So yes – I am so proud of him .    So here’s to Wade – my husband & passionate rose grower extra-ordinaire.  He literally lives, eats, sleeps and breathes ROSES and it shows in his roses – so thank-you Wade for giving so many people such immense pleasure with the beautiful ROSES you grow day in & day out and year in and year out and thank-you for INSPIRING our whole team here at A Dozen Roses & Roses2Go to go that extra mile to be different and dedicated to the WORLD OF ROSES and great quality roses guaranteed to last 7 days but all grown using the latest environmentally-friendly cultivation techniques.  Without your incredible knowledge, experience and PASSION for GREAT QUALITY ROSES – Roses2Go & A Dozen Roses would be NOTHING!  Thank-you for 14 years of marriage & being the BEST ROSE GROWER EVER!  Happy Anniversary to the BEST Australian Rose Grower I know!

As Wade says “We want to change the way you FEEL NATURALLY with our roses!”  BRAVO !

I attach a few photos of Wade at work in HIS beautiful roses – where is happiest!

Twitter is the word!

I am a truly addicted Facebook person and have in the past two months discovered TWITTER.  I have 108 followers and I follow about 200 people or groups.  I find this media absolutely amazing because we are able to network with almost anyone in the world that is on Twitter – regardless of their creed, colour, country, status or popularity.   What is better is that you get a little insight into their world and how their minds work – my favourite person to follow is Richard Branson – or “Sir Dick” – he is so down-to-earth and inspirational in every single “Tweet” he makes.

A Dozen Roses is on Twitter – find us there “adozenroses” and keep up todate with our beautiful roses, the current specials and any other goss. on our business.  It is a real hoot!  And we would love to FOLLOW you too.

Have a very rosey day!

PS  Remember the scent of the roses remains on the hands of the giver!

I’d rather have Roses on my table than diamonds on my neck. – Emma Goldman

I love this quote – because being a rose grower – I think I have more chance of having “roses on my table than diamonds on my neck”!  Yes! It is a tough industry to be in – but we wouldn’t trade it for the world – we love roses and we are really good at growing roses which makes a huge difference.

Today, I wanted to share some facts about A Dozen Roses and roses in general:-

*  35% of our cultivation area is producing RED roses – the other 65% is made up of all the other colours like yellow, pink, white, orange, and bi-coloured roses – that will give you an idea of how much more popular red roses are compared to all the other coloured roses

* yellow roses are the next most popular coloured roses closely followed by white and pink – AMAZING!

*  Highly scented roses have a shorter vase life due to the fact they emmit a type of ethylene gas which in turn hastens the ripening process of the rose bloom and thus shortens it’s vase life.  Here at A Dozen Roses we choose varieties of roses with little to no scent therefore ensuring maximise vase life of the blooms

*  On dull overcast and rainy days people buy more yellow and orange coloured roses than any other colour

*  It takes a ton of rose petals to make sixteen ounces of rose oil

*  Long Stemmed Red Roses are the classic symbol of Love
